Earlier this year after a scary medical incident on vacation and getting an emergency pacemaker, my husband Andrew was diagnosed with sarcoidosis. This was a disease neither of us had heard about before, but it affects thousands of individuals and families.
Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory condition where clusters of immune cells form in the body’s organs—most often the lungs—affecting how they work. When it involves the heart (cardiac sarcoidosis), it can disrupt heart rhythm and function, sometimes causing serious complications.. But there's so much more we don't understand about this disease still.
Throughout the month of April, I will be participating in the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research’s (FSR) Taking Steps to See Sarcoidosis initiative. I am taking steps and raising funds for FSR. The work FSR does helps to fund research, provide patient support, and push toward better treatments and a cure.
