As you might know, the fight against sarcoidosis is a cause that is personal for me. It literally had me dead in my tracks (on Parkway North HS track).
Sarcoidosis is a rare, often chronic inflammatory disorder that caused the formation of granulomas, inflammatory cells, around my heart. This can occur in almost any organ in the body. For me, it is the heart. This disease affects as many as 200,000 Americans but there is currently no known cure and treatment options are limited and often ineffective.
So to celebrate 50 years of marathoning I am hitting the road to support the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) fundraising for Team KISS as I train for the 2026 Honolulu marathon on December 13!
KISS stands for Kick In to Stop Sarcoidosis, and that’s what you'll be doing by supporting my page. FSR is the leading nonprofit dedicated to finding a cure for this disease and improving care and treatment for sarcoidosis patients. The funds all go directly to FSR and their programs for patient education, supporting patients and their caretakers, and of course, funding research to find better treatment options and one day, a cure.
