1/11/18 update - WOW! I am overwhelmed with gratitude by the support and generosity. Let's keep this momentum going and see how far we can go!!

Thank you for visiting my page!

As you might know, the fight against sarcoidosis is a cause that is very important to me. Sarcoidosis is a rare, chronic, inflammatory disorder that causes the formation of granulomas, or clumps of inflammatory cells. This can occur in almost any organ in the body, most commonly affecting the lungs, lymph nodes, skin and eyes. While sarcoidosis affects as many as 200,000 Americans, there is currently no known cure, and treatment options are limited and often ineffective.

I was officially diagnosed with sarcoidosis in January 2013. Since then, the disease has impacted my entire body: my lungs, lymph nodes, liver, spleen, joints, and nerves. My symptoms range from severe nerve pain to fatigue and trouble breathing. Worse yet, the disease is predictably unpredictable. It's like playing a game of whack-a-mole; when you get one symptom or organ stable, something else pops up.

Although five years have elapsed since my diagnosis, I'm still working with my doctors to try to find the right combination of medications to stabilize the disease-- and all of the medications have their own unwanted side effects.

The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) has played a huge role in empowering me as a patient. They provide critical information to patients and physicians regarding treatment protocols. They fund cutting-edge research. And they have created a patient database to capture much needed information about sarcoidosis for researchers.

I was so impressed with FSR and their efforts that I became a patient ambassador for the organization. As a patient ambassador, I've seen first-hand the value of FSR and the impact it has had on the lives of those suffering from sarcoidosis.

On April 28th in Atlanta, Georgia, I'll be a part of FSR's 5th annual 5k run/walk. As a member of Team KISS (Kick In to Stop Sarcoidosis) I'll be walking with family, friends, and my fellow "sarkies" to raise awareness and, most importantly, raise funds for FSR and sarcoidosis research.

I would greatly appreciate your support. FSR is the leading nonprofit dedicated to finding a cure for this disease and improving care and treatment options for sarcoidosis patients. The funds you donate go directly to FSR and their programs for improving patient education, supporting patients and their caretakers, and, of course, funding research to find better treatment options and one day, a cure.

Please help me reach my goal. Together, WE CAN STOP SARCOIDOSIS!
