Deborah Rice FSR-GSCA $20,000 Fundraiser

Deborah Rice

Deborah Rice

Hello and thank you for visiting my page!

As you all know, I’ve been diagnosed with sarcoidosis, pulmonary sarcoidosis to be exact, meaning it affects my lungs. Sarcoidosis (pronounced SAR-COY-DOE-SIS) is an inflammatory disease that cause heightened immunity. Our immune system goes into overdrive causing tiny clumps of cells (granulomas) to form. When too many of these clumps form, it can interfere with the affected organ’s structure and function. There is currently no known cure and treatment options are limited and often ineffective.

Since being diagnosed, advocating has become very important to me. I’ve used my voice to get proclamations across the states, laws passed, recognizing April as Sarcoidosis Awareness Month. This year I’ve been selected as a Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research Global Sarcoidosis Clinic Alliance Volunteer Leader. The FSR- GSCA is program consisting of clinics, hospitals and individual providers committed to finding a cure and offering evidence-based, patient care for those living with sarcoidosis. UAB’s Multidisciplinary Sarcoidosis Clinic has joined FSR as a founding member in their Global Sarcoidosis Alliance.

As an FSR-GSCA Volunteer Leader I will be working with UAB! My new role allows me to work directly with the doctors who help take care of me, talk about exciting! I get to work with individuals fighting the same battle, sharing my story in hopes of helping others.

FSR-GSCA is a new program, and with any successful program, funding is needed. My mission is not only to educate and bring forth awareness about the disease but to also raise funds to help support the program. My goal is to raise $20,000 for the Alliance and FSR's education and support program and I am asking for your help.

In honor of myself and many others fighting this terrible disease, please give today.

FSR is the leading nonprofit dedicated to finding a cure for this disease and improving care and treatment options for sarcoidosis patients. The funds all go directly to FSR and their programs for improving patient education, supporting patients and their caretakers, and of course, funding research to find better treatment options and one day, a cure.

Please consider helping me reach my goal. Together, we can Stop Sarcoidosis!

- Deborah
